Start with the part nobody says out loud
Wix is a very good website builder. It is one of the biggest in the world for reasons that hold up: the editor is excellent, the templates are beautiful, and there is almost nothing you cannot build with it. If you want a shop, a booking system, a members area and a blog, Wix will do all four and we will do none of them.
So this page is not going to tell you Wix is bad. It is going to tell you what happens when a general purpose tool meets a very specific job.
The blank page problem
Open Wix and you get a canvas and a thousand choices. That is the point of it, and for most businesses it is the right trade. For an actor it means you are now a web designer, and the questions arrive immediately. Where do the credits go? Does the reel sit above the headshots or below? How much is too much on the About page? What does a casting director actually look at?
Those are not design questions. They are industry questions, and a general builder has no opinion on any of them. Every layout here already answers them, because every layout here was built for one job. You are not choosing between a restaurant template and a photographer template and adapting one. You are choosing between actor websites.
The difference that shows up in year two
Building the site is the part everyone compares, and it matters least. What matters is what happens when you book something.
On any general builder, a new credit is a job. You log in, find the right page, add a row, match the formatting, upload the new headshot, resize it, place the reel, publish. It takes twenty minutes and you will not always do it. Most actor sites die this way, quietly, about eighteen months in.
This site reads your IMDb, Backstage, YouTube and Vimeo profiles and builds itself from what is already there. Then it keeps watching them. A new credit lands and the site catches up. Nobody logs in.
That is not a small feature difference. We checked thirty-seven companies that build websites for actors and performers in September 2026, from one-person studios to the largest platforms. Not one of them advertises a site that updates itself. Three mention IMDb at all.
Where Wix is genuinely the better choice
Straightforwardly, and not as a courtesy. If any of these are you, go and use Wix. You will be happier.
- You are not only an actor. If you also direct, produce, teach, coach or sell something, you need a general tool. Ours will keep trying to talk about credits and reels.
- You want to sell something. Classes, coaching, merchandise, tickets. Wix has a real shop. We have none.
- You want bookings or payments built into the site. Same answer.
- You enjoy designing. Some people genuinely want to place every element and get something nobody else has. Automatic import is the opposite of that, and you would find us restrictive.
Where we are the better choice
- You want an actor website and nothing else. A tool that only does one thing can make decisions for you.
- Your credits keep coming. The self-updating is worth most to the people who change most, which is to say working actors.
- You do not want a project. Put your name in and look at the result. It takes about ninety seconds, and if it is wrong you have lost ninety seconds.
- You want to change the look later without moving anything by hand. Ninety-eight designs, and switching does not touch your content.
- You want to start free and stay free if that is enough. The free plan is a complete actor website and it does not expire.
The honest summary
Wix is a better website builder than we are, and that is not close. We are better at exactly one thing: being an actor's website without you having to think about it, and staying current after you stop paying attention.
If your website is a project you want to work on, use Wix. If your website is something you want to exist, be right, and stay right while you go and act, that is what this is for.
